Doug Hancock

70, Cadiz

Funeral services for Doug Hancock, 70, of Cadiz were held Monday, November 23, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Goodwin Funeral Home. The Rev. Norman Cotton officiated. Burial followed at Trigg Memory Acres in Cadiz. Pallbearers were Josh Dawson, Nick Edmonds, David Hardy, Milburn Hardy, Denny Thomas and Jackie Humphries.

Hancock died at 11:06 a.m. on Friday, November 20, 2009 at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah of natural causes.

He was born Tuesday, January 10, 1939 in Trigg County to Luther T. Hancock and Ada A. (Carpenter) Hancock.

Hancock was a retired painter and was a member of Baptist Faith.

Hancock was preceded in death by his father, Luther T. Hancock, his mother, Ada A. (Carpenter) Hancock, four brothers, John T. Hancock, James T. Hancock, Leslie E. Hancock and Ernest Hancock, three sisters, Ann Hardy, Marqurite Hancock and Laura Humphries.

Survivors include a son, Steven Douglas Hancock of Cadiz, a daughter, Vickie Sue Hancock of Cadiz, four brothers, Robert L. Hancock of Cadiz, Charles W. Hancock of Hopkinsville, Franklin D. Hancock of Cadiz and Roy E. Hancock of Cadiz, four sisters, Mary Edmonds of Cadiz, Linda Thomas of Cadiz, Judy Edmonds of Cadiz and Helen J. Hite of Cadiz, two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Sarah Long

85, Cadiz

Funeral services for Sarah Long, 85, of Cadiz were held on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Oaklawn Hills Memorial Gardens in Novi, Mich. Pastor John Russell officiated. Burial followed at Oaklawn Hills Memorial Gardens, Novi, Mich.

Long died at 5:45 p.m. on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville following a long illness.

She was born Wednesday, June 18, 1924 in Nelson County to Edward Beadie Thomas and Minnie (Terell) Thomas.

Long was a homemaker and a member of Church of Christ in Michigan.

Long was preceded in death by her father, Edward Beadie Thomas, her mother, Minnie (Terell) Thomas, her husband, B. Howard Long, two sons, Bernie Howard Long and Gerald Wayne Long, three brothers, Marion Nicholas Thomas, Marvin Edward Thomas and Carl Thomas, four sisters, Nellie Christine Thomas, Ruby Arline Thomas, Catherine Elizabeth Thomas and Helen Leverne Pennington.

Survivors include one son, Kenneth Ray Long, wife Barbara, Allen Park, Mich., one sister, Juanita Pierce, Manchester, Tenn., one brother, Reco Thomas, Mt. Washington, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Christine Oliver

71, Cadiz

Funeral services for Christine Oliver, 71, of Cadiz were Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 2 p.m. at King’s Funeral Home. Rev. Norman Cotton, Jr., Rev. Wayne Glass and Baccus Oliver officiated. Burial followed at Caldwell Blue Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers were Norris Tyler, Jr., Kevin Boggess, Brian Overby, Lennis Thompson, Jonathan Oliver, Joe Cotton, Garrett Thompson and Jimmy Hampton.

Oliver died Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 3 a.m. at her residence of natural causes.

She was born February 9, 1938 in Trigg County to Dixie Lee Oliver and Anna Lee Gray Oliver.

Oliver worked at Trigg Knit and was a private caretaker. She was also a member of Liberty Point Baptist Church where she served numerous years in vacation bible school and WMU leader.

Oliver was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Hulit Oliver, her father, Dixie Lee Oliver, her mother, Anna Lee Gray Oliver and one brother, Roy Dan Oliver. Survivors include one son Deano Oliver, wife Pam, of Herndon, one daughter, Tina Oliver of Paducah, one brother, Charles W. Oliver, wife Della, of Kuttawa, three sisters, Marie and the late Fred Wright, Erin, Tenn., Rosie and the late Dr. Linz Brown, Carbondale, Ill., and Betty Ann Ladd, Clarksville, Tenn., two grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a dear friend Mamie Tyler of Cadiz.

Robbie Cothran

72, Cadiz

Funeral services for Robbie Cothran, 72, of Cadiz were Friday, November 20, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Goodwin Funeral Home. Rev. Elijah Balentine officiated. Burial followed at Hurricane Cemetery in Trigg County. Pallbearers were Jason Lancaster, David Noel, Jeff Parker, Dusty Cothran, K. T. Lancaster and Michael Parker. Honorary Pallbearers were Kenneth Lancaster and Bennie Allen.

Cothran died at 4:10 p.m. on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville following a short illness.

She was born Saturday, December 5, 1936 in Golden Pond to George Conroy Atwood and Mamye Lee (Shaw) Atwood.

Cothran was a retired nurse and a member of Baptist Faith.

Cothran was preceded in death by her father, George Conroy Atwood, her mother Mamye Lee (Shaw) Atwood, her husband, Bobby Cothran, one brother, George Edward Atwood and one sister Margaret Elizabeth Atwood.

Survivors include one son, Tim Cothran, wife Mischelle, of Cadiz, one sister, Mae Lou Lancaster, husband Kenneth, of Cadiz, two sisters-in-law, Ruenell Allen of Cadiz and Beulah Cothran of Hammond, Ind., and several nieces and nephews.

Hugh H. Roberts, Sr.

79, Cadiz

Funeral services for Hugh H. Roberts, Sr., 79, of Cadiz, were held at Oak Grove Baptist Church on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 10 a.m. Rev. Hal Shipley Officiated. Burial followed at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Trigg County. Pallbearers were Evan Roberts, Josh Roberts, Daniel Roberts, Tim Ramnitz, Mark Harris and Joe Oakley. The honorary pallbearers were nephews of Mr. Roberts.

Roberts died at 5:25 a.m. on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at Caldwell County Medical Center in Princeton of natural causes.

He was born on Monday, November 25, 1929 in Trigg County to Walter Irvin Roberts, Sr. and Lillian Hicks (Gentry) Roberts. Roberts was a retired concrete finisher.

Roberts was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where he was a former Sunday School Teacher. He was also a member of Cadiz Masonic Lodge #121.

Roberts was preceded in death by his father, Walter Irvin Roberts, Sr., his mother, Lillian Hicks (Gentry) Roberts, four brothers, Malcolm Roberts, Ralph G. Roberts, Walter “Doo” Roberts, Jr., Albert “Wink” Roberts and Bessie Noel, one sister Lillian Earl Atwood. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Dora Lee (Cothran) Roberts of Kuttawa, two sons, Hugh H. Roberts Jr., wife Debbie, of Cadiz and Howard Roberts, wife Barbie, of Buffalo Grove, Ill., four sisters, Nell Stallons of Cadiz, Blanche Wallace of Hopkinsville, Rebecca Noel of Hopkinsville and Lula Belle Vangilder of Detroit, Mich., and five grandchildren.

Raymond Edsel Howell

Funeral services for Raymond Edsel Howell, 83, of Cadiz were held on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Goodwin Funeral Home. Rodney Cheatham officiated. Burial will be at Union Hill Cemetery in Trigg County. Pallbearers were Keith Howell, Dylon Lancaster, Trey Lancaster, Wilton “Pud” Lancaster, III, Alan Howell, Wes Dubowsky, Bobby Allison and Randal Graves.

Howell died on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 11:35 p.m. at his residence of natural causes.

He was born Sunday, June 20, 1926 in Trigg County to Wiley Howell and Ina Rose Howell.

Howell was a retired operating engineer/teamster and was a member of Joiner’s Chapel Church of Christ.

Howell was preceded in death by his father, Wiley Howell, his mother, Ina Rose Howell, his first wife, Margaret Ann “Peggy” Howell, three sisters, Vera Cherry, Willie Maude Groves and Pauline Cherry, four brothers, Bill Howell, Lester Howell, Frank Howell and Dotson Howell.

Survivors include his wife, Clara M. Howell, Cadiz, one son, Keith Howell, Cadiz, two daughters, Pamela Allison, Paris, Tenn. and Rebecca Howell, Cadiz, one sister, Nora Jones, Alamo, CA, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Debra Reiswig

54, Cadiz

Debra Reiswig, 54, of Cadiz, died Sunday, November 15, 2009, at her home in Cadiz. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Goodwin Funeral Home.

Mrs. Reiswig had worked at the Cadiz Restaurant as a grill cook.

She is survived by her husband Jim Godair of Cadiz; one son, Chris Reiswig of Cadiz,; two step-sons, Jeremy Godair of Cadiz and Jimmy Godair of Cadiz; one brother, Ian East of Sacremento, Calif.; one grandchild, Auron Reiswig, and five step-grandchildren, Joseph Godair, Aideon Godair, Robert Papajeski, Mallorie Godair and Maddison Godair.
