Funeral services for the Rev. Clarence Wood, 71, of Lineville, Ala., were held Monday, December 28, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville with Pastor Keith Jones, the Rev. Frank Sledge and the Rev. Jerry Colquett officiating. Burial followed in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Jacksonville, Ala.

The Rev. wood passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2009 at Lineville Health and Rehabilitation Center. A Calhoun County native and resident of Jacksonville, Rev. Wood was a graduate of Jacksonville High School (Class of 1957). Serving as an ordained minister from the early 1970s until 2005. After being called to his first church in Randolph County, Ala., he then went to Trigg County in 1973. In 1980, he went to Clay County, Ala., where he pastored a number of churches until his retirement in 2005. In the late 1980s, he began a side career in woodworking and furniture refinishing. He was a member of Lineville Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Carolyn Knight Wood; three children, Bill Wood and wife Fredia of Cadiz, Arelene Moore of Paducah, and Tommy Wood and wife Erica of Lineville, Ala.; one sister, Polly Thomas of Blue Mountain, Ala.; two brothers, Lowell Wood of Jacksonville and Wilbur Wood of Oxford, and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; McKinley Wood and Effie Clark Wood.

Pallbearers were Alvin Wood, Gary Wood, Stephen Wood, Scott Manners, Rusty Simmons and Daniel Simmons.
