Trigg County finished second out of six teams at Saturday’s high school powerlifting meet at Christian County.

Scores were based on the product of a coefficient based on the weight of each lifter multiplied by the amout lifted.

Hopkins Central won the meet with an overall coefficient of 580, followed by Trigg at 568. The Wildcats defeated Madisonville-North Hopkins, Graves County, Reidland and the host Colonels.

Trigg finished first overall in the bench press and had three of the top five lifters in that event – Akeem Wilson (first, 335 pounds, 208 coefficient), Dillon Cionko (third, 270, 197) and Zach White (fifth, 320, 192). Other Trigg lifters on bench included Toddrick Wilson (180, 180), Cody Sarnaki (300, 179), Terrance Miller (275, 179), James Westerfield (230, 178), Hakeem Tyler (225, 171), Deondre Wilson (235, 170), Jamus McAtee (240, 169) and Jay Moore (280, 167).

Trigg finished fourth in the squat, led by Tavaras Poindexter (second, 475, 283). Other ‘Cat lifters included Akeem Wilson (450, 280), Cionko (350, 256), Toddrick Wilson (255, 255), Jonta Barksdale (330, 240), Josh Adams (325, 225), Miller (340, 221), Tyler (285, 218), McAtee (300, 212), Chris McKenzie (325, 209) and Deondre Wilson (285, 207).

In the power clean, Trigg took third place, led by Cionko (sixth, 230, 167). Also lifting for Trigg were Toddrick Wilson (165, 165), White (265, 159), Adams (225, 156), McAtee (215, 152), Westerfield (195, 151), Miller (230, 150), Barksdale (200, 146), Poindexter (235, 141), Tyler (185, 141) and McKenzie (215, 139).

Akeem Wilson finished second overall (625), and four Trigg lifters scored points in all four divisions – Cionko (fourth overall, 619), Toddrick Wilson (600), Miller (550), Tyler (530) and McAtee (533). Other Trigg lifters with top overall scores included White (547), Poindexter (578), Westerfield (533), Adams (519) and Barksdale (546).

Trigg coach Coby Lewis said the team score could have been higher, but Sean Beebe, last week’s top lifter, did not compete Saturday, and Moore only lifted in the bench press due to a bad back.

Trigg’s next event is the 32nd annual state championship, which Trigg will co-host March 20 at Hopkinsville High School.
