Trigg County High School’s softball team opened its 2010 season with a pair of losses to 2nd Region foes last week.

The Lady Wildcats’ season opener was played Thursday at Crittenden County, where Trigg lost 7-0 to the Lady Rockets.

Trigg finished the day with five singles, one each by Sierra Bush, Ashlee McGee, Lauren Daniel, Taylor Furr and Brianna Messmer.

Daniel pitched for Trigg. She allowed only four hits, but the Lady ‘Cat defense committed six errors. Crittenden scored a single run in the third and three apiece in the fourth and sixth innings.

Trigg was more competitive in its second game of the season but still lost 11-6 at Todd County Central.

The Lady Rebels scored four runs in the first inning, but Trigg quickly answered with a three-run, inside-the-park home run by eighth grader Brittany Thomas.

Trigg answered each Todd tally, keeping the deficit to one run until the Lady Rebels plated four in the bottom of the sixth.

Thomas added a pair of singles to finish 3-for-4 at the plate. McGee finished with three singles, Elizabeth Torian went 2-for-4 with a triple, and Bush and Morgan Parker each had singles.

Daniel earned the loss again, and Trigg’s defense committed six errors for the second straight game.

The Lady ‘Cats return to action Tuesday at Fort Campbell before playing their first home game of the season next Thursday against Lyon County.
