Wildcats take second, Lady ‘Cats third at Henderson

Trigg County High School’s track and field team competed Monday at Henderson County and April 13 at Logan County.

Both Trigg teams competed well at Henderson, with the boys finishing second and the girls third overall. The Wildcats placed first in five events, while the Lady Wildcats won three.

The boys were led by the 4x200-meter relay team, which won with a time of 1 minute, 40.6 seconds. In individual field events, Sean Beebe won the shot put (41 feet, 4 inches) and long jump (19-10) while Javin Grubbs won the discus (125-03) and Josh Adams won the triple jump (39-06).

Other Trigg boys results included the following:

4x800-meter relay: third, 9:55.1;

400-meter dash: Depaul Hendrix, third, :59.3; Matt Savage, fifth, 1:01.1; Primal Patel, 11th, 1:09.3; Jake Mitchell, 12th, 1:11.1;

800-meter run: Savage, fifth, 2:30.4;

110-meter hurdles: Garret Brown, third, :21.3;

Pole vault: Savage, third, 10-06; Brown, fourth, 6-0;

Long jump: Adams, second, 19-03; Ryan Briggs, fifth, 18-0; Patel, 13th, 13-05;

Triple jump: Jakelze Martin, third, 36-0;

Shot put: Devon Wharton, second, 39-03; Michael Parker, ninth, 34-0;

Discus: Akeem Wilson, ninth, 78-0.

The Lady ‘Cats were led by the 4x100-meter relay team of Maya Bridges, Khadijah Grubbs, Shelby Grubbs and Kelly Acree, who won with a time of :56.3. Lynease Byers won the 1600-meter run in 5:43.4, and Aubree Burcham won the 300-meter hurdles in :56.4.

Other Trigg girls results included the following:

100-meter dash: Shelby Grubbs, second, :13.6; Burcham, 10th, :16.5; DiAsia Acree, 14th, :20.4;

800-meter run: X’Zashea Mayes, third, 2:51.4; Jessica Brashears, fifth, 3:11.9;

100-meter hurdles: DiAsia Acree, third, :20.4; Burcham, sixth, :25.9;

Pole vault: Valerie Barnes, fourth, 5-06;

Long jump: Bridges, third, 12-10.5; Barnes, fifth, 11-09.5;

Triple jump: Bridges, second, 25-04.5; Burcham, third, 22-03; Barnes, fourth, 20-11;

Shot put: Deasia Wilson, second, 27-05.5;

Discus: Rodreyanna Jones, fourth, 58-05; Wilson, sixth, 52-05.

At Logan County, Trigg’s girls finished third and the boys took fourth.

The Lady ‘Cats took first in five events, including the 4x100-meter (:56.02) and 4x200-meter (2:00.63) relays. DiAsia Acree won the 100-meter hurdles in :18.90, Barnes won the long jump (11-04) and Wilson tied for first in the shot put (26-02).

100-meter dash: Kelly Acree, fourth, :13.88;

400-meter dash: Burcham, ninth, 1:24.51;

800-meter run: Mayes, fifth, 2:55.07; Byers, seventh, 3:09.34; Barnes, eighth, 3:10.76; Brashears, ninth, 3:13.02;

1600-meter run: Byers, second, 5:49.45;

100-meter hurdles: Burcham, sixth, :22.92;

300-meter hurdles: DiAsia Acree, fourth, 1:03.78; Burcha, fifth, 1:07.34;

Long jump: Byers, fourth, 10-01.5;

Shot put: Jones, eighth, 17-00.5.

Wharton provided Trigg’s only boys win at Logan County, winning the shot put with a throw of 38-09.5.

100-meter dash: Hakeem Tyler, second, :11.59; Briggs, third, :11.73; Jalik Alexander, 10th, :13.21;

400-meter dash: Brown, sixth, 1:02.96;

110-meter hurdles: Brown, fourth, :22.42;

300-meter hurdles: Brown, fifth, :54.86;

Long jump: Briggs, fourth, 16-10.5; Jamaal Adams, ninth, 11-11;

Shot put: Parker, fourth, 35-10.

Trigg is set to return to action May 4 at Hopkinsville.
