Trigg County wasted no time in displaying improvement on the volleyball court in Thursday’s 2-0 (25-15, 25-10) win over Hopkins County Central at Wildcat Gym.

“They didn’t underestimate them, and they played hard,” Trigg head coach Scott Hill said of his team’s mindest against Hopkins Central. “Every day at practice, our chemistry keeps getting better. Now, they’re believing in themselves, and as long as they keep doing that, I just see more victories.”

The Lady Wildcats jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first game, with the first and fifth points coming on aces by Samantha Harper. Hopkins Central scored seven of the next nine points to tie the score, but Trigg never trailed in the game, taking advantage of six Lady Storm service errors.

In the second, Trigg broke away after a tight start, scoring 21 of the final 28 points of the contest, including a 9-0 run that essentially put the contest away.

Trigg was scheduled to open 5th District play Tuesday against Crittenden County (results unavailable at press time) before playing Thursday at University Heights Academy and Saturday at the Christian County Invitational. The Lady ‘Cats will also travel to district foe Livingston Central next Tuesday and won’t play another home game until Sept. 21.

“I think this is the perfect storm for us right now because nobody expects us to do anything,” Hill said. “Hopefully I don’t jinx us, but I think we can put volleyball on the map in Trigg County this season.”

JV: Trigg was also victorious in the junior varsity contest, winning 2-1 (21-12, 19-21, 21-14).

Roster addition: Trigg made a last-minute addition to its roster last week with sophomore transfer Britney Hallgren, who recently moved from Chicago, Ill. Hallgren, who recorded a pair of aces off the bench Thursday, adds an experienced presence to the Lady ‘Cats, Hill said.
