Gordon Mitchell of Trigg County died due to injuries sustained in a horse riding accident Monday, Trigg County Coroner John Mark Vinson said.

Mitchell, of Blue Springs Road, was at the Garrett farm near the intersection of Montgomery Church Road and Barefield Road. Vinson was called to the scene around 6:50 p.m.

Mitchell perhaps most well-known locally as a previous owner of Cadiz Family Restaurant. He was defeated earlier this year in his bid to earn the Republican nomination for Trigg County sheriff.

Goodwin Funeral Home is in charge of Mitchell’s funeral arrangements. For obituary information, see the obituaries section.
