Veterans Parade scheduled

The Trigg County Veterans Parade and program committee finalized plans for the event to be held beginning at 11 a.m. Thursday.

Mark Lovely a Marine League Corp veteran, member of the American Legion post No. 74 and the Pennyrile Honor Guard, will be the keynote speaker. Delbert Stagner, a resident of Cadiz and native Trigg Countian, has been selected as Grand Marshal. Delbert, a World War II veteran, joined the USCG at Nashville, Tenn. on February 2, 1942.

Those who will participate in the parade are reminded to meet back of the Trigg County Middle School early enough to get in line as the parade will start promptly at 11 a.m. going to Main Street proceeding west to West Cadiz Park.

Members of the committee will be on the grounds to assist. All veterans are encouraged to participate in the parade. Radio Station WKDZ will announce the parade as it proceeds on the route to the park.

U. S. Army personnel and vehicles fro Ft. Campbell and Paducah will be a part of the parade. During the program, the US flag will be folded by two members of the Trigg County Honor Guard of the American Legion Post No. 74, assisted by members of the Trigg County Boy and Girl Scouts.

Margery D. Sumner, member of the James Thomas Chapter NSDAR, will narrate meaning of the 13 stars at the time the flag is folded. Carla and Kristen Heckman will place a Memorial Wreath during the program.

Winners will be announced in the Voice of American Contest sponsored by Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Veterans Essay contest sponsored by the James Thomas Chapter NSDR, assisted by Brenda Southwick.

Trigg County Treasurer Lucy Oliver said several entries have been received for participation in the parade. Anyone who has not completed an application but decide to enter should be at the school grounds the day of the parade. Members of the Veterans Parade and Program will be there to assist.

Refreshments will be served at conclusion of the program.
