According to Nancy Reece, Vice Commander Barkley Flotilla No. 87, “We take a very proactive approach to assisting and participating in as many local activities as possible during the year.

“The holiday season is no exception, as several members volunteer their time towards building a positive relationship with the families of Trigg and surrounding counties. Our year-around commitments include extensive boating safety classes for all area residents and visitors, boat safety checks, as well as providing everyone a safe place to enjoy their water recreation activities in western Kentucky.”

These comments were communicated to members and guests at their meeting this past week.

The extensive Christmas Tree Exhibit at the Janice Mason Art Museum in downtown Cadiz, with well over forty individually decorated trees, was opened to the public this past week. It included the “Peaceful Harbor Tree” from the Coast Guard, along with complimentary coloring books for the children. The display will be open for viewing until Thursday, Jan. 30.

During the meeting David Nalley, Commander, announced that Nancy Reece was unanimously elected to the position of Commander for 2011. Well deserving of this honor, Nancy and her husband Dickey reside in Christian County, where she was the former mayor of Lafayette.

She is employed by the Kentucky New Era newspaper and continues to be involved in several Auxiliary activities throughout the Kentucky, Illinois and Tennessee areas.

Elaine Nalley, currently Flotilla Financial Officer, was also elected to position of Vice Commander for 2011. Elaine, along with her husband David, has been active for over ten years in the Coast Guard. They, along with many dedicated couples have contributed immensely to the community by maintaining safety and security on our waterways.
