This year’s Angel Tree Drive has been was a success so far, said Gloria Davis of Beta Nu.

This year, 248 children and 36 senior citizens were adopted, but unfortunately about 15 children were not adopted, Davis said. She also noted that the number adopted was roughly the same as last year.

The items were distributed to the people that needed them on Saturday morning, and overall, the distribution went well, although a few items were not picked up, Davis said. She also stated that Pat King of Social Services will see to it that those remaining items are delivered.

”For many of the children and the senior citizen/special need adults the only real Christmas they will have is what is generously given them by those who care enough to share with those less fortunate,” Davis said.

The names of people who need have needs this Christmas were given to Beta Nu by Pat King, and the names, ages, sexes and descriptions of what they need were written down on angel-shaped slips of paper and put on trees at Heritage Bank, FNB Bank and the Bank of Cadiz, said Davis.

After checking with the banks about 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 6, it was discovered there were eight angels on the tree at Bank of Cadiz, downtown; seven at the Lakota branch; 23 at Heritage Bank and 24 at FNB Bank, said Davis.

People then picked those names off, bought the needed items and took those items to one of the bank branches, and after that people from Beta Nu picked them out, sorted them and distributed them on Saturday, Davis said.

Beta Nu has been doing this for roughly 25 years, said Davis. Recently, a cut-off age of 12 was instituted, as previously, any children in a family that qualified was eligible, Davis added.

“Beta Nu thanks Trigg Countians for all they have done in the past for the Angels of this county and has high hopes that the trees will be empty and all 248 children and 36 senior citizen/special need adult Angels will be adopted,” Davis said.
