Lake Barkley will be the site of the Kentucky B.A.S.S. Federation Nation (KBFN) Southern Team Challenge Tournament Oct. 20 – 22, Cadiz/Trigg County Chamber of Commerce Co-President Ricky Turner said at Thursday’s meeting.

“We hope to bring in about 10 to 15 teams, which is about 60 to 90 anglers or 30 to 45 boats,” KBFN Vice President Greg Marshall said in an e-mail to Turner. “I do know that there are several teams from KY and TN who are very interested in this event being on Lake Barkley so I hope we can work together to make this happen.”

Turner said that last year’s KBFN tournament was held at Wheeler Lake in northern Alabama. Created by Wheeler Dam along the Tennessee River, it stretches 60 miles (96.5 km) from Wheeler Dam to Guntersville Dam.

Turner said that this is a large bass fishing organization and that the county would be very happy to have them hold the tournament here. He added that it should be a fairly large group coming primarily from Kentucky and Tennessee but also from five other southern states that will hopefully contribute to the local economy.

“They’re coming here, and if we provide the things that they’re asking of, they will be a part of it,” Turner said.

Marshall said that although they do want to have the tournament at Lake Barkley, they have some conditions, such as 10 complementary rooms for five nights starting on Monday, Oct, 17, the cost of the 18 plaques for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, a big fish award of $250 for each of the three days of the tournament,

Marshall also said they want security for the tournament equipment, a meeting room for Wednesday, Oct. 19 with appetizers and any ramp permits fees or costs.

At a meeting of the Cadiz/Trigg County Tourism Commission, Lake Barkley State Park Manager John Jordan said it might be possible for him to use the lodge’s conference room for the pre-tournament meeting on Oct. 19.
