I hope you were pleased with the activities and plans we have in store for our chamber members. The first of which is moving to a fiscal year, which translates to 18 months worth of membership for the price of twelve months. Our board decided we needed to make this change, for several reasons, and realized it would give our members added value.
I met with David Fourqurean and the Trigg County Ag Board to begin planning the farm tour and Ag Appeciation Dinner. Mark your calendar for March 17, and plan to attend the dinner to show support for our local farmers.
Land Between the Lakes will host a small business seminar on Saturday, Feb. 19. There will be information presented on tourism, starting a business, and operating a current business more efficiently. Reservations can be made until February 11, 2011, by calling 270-924-2233.
You may go to www.lbl.org and click on Alerts and Notices to find more information. I believe this seminar will be full of information that will be beneficial to many of us.
I would like to mention the Regional Education Summit which was held at the Hopkinsville Community College on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, from 8:00 a.m.-12 noon. There was information presented on how we can provide a better education for our students.
I recently heard that the United States is ranked ninth in the world in percentage of college graduates. We need to realize how important it is for the youth in our community to receive some form of higher education.
Our community needs to take ownership in the education of our students and be supportive of them and our school system. I encourage you to attend the summit to learn ways you can help make our students better, which will ultimately make our community better.
I want to tell you about something happening in our community on March 5, 2011 that is going to be so much fun! The Trigg County Hospital Foundation will be presenting “Hee Haw”, a dinner theatre featuring entertainment by “local celebrities” such as Trigg County Judge Executive Stan Humphries, Cadiz Police Chief Hollis Alexander, and Trigg County Schools Superintendent Travis Hamby, among others.
There will be good food and great entertainment at the event. I encourage you to buy tickets early because this will be a sold-out event. Tickets are $25.00 per person and proceeds will go toward the mammography suite at the Trigg County Hospital. You really don’t want to miss this show!
