Mr. Esselstyn died on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at his home. He was born on June 2, 1927 in Hopkinsville to parents John Nelson Esselstyn, Sr. and Mary Malone Esselstyn.
He was dedicated to his wife of 52 years, Betty Morgan Esselstyn, to whom he was united in marriage on December 31, 1958. He was father to Linda Esselstyn Van Dyke, Lisa Esselstyn Kato and John Nelson Esselstyn III. Along with his wife and children, he is survived by six grandchildren, Sarah, Alex and Macon Van Dyke; Lauren and Daniel Kato; and Jonathan Esselstyn. In addition to his dedication and passion of family, John was an avid woodworker, passionate traveler, lover of the outdoors and all things Colorado and Alaska.
He was a graduate of Western Military Academy in Alton, IL. He served in the U. S. Army with service in Korea. He graduated with a BS in Business from Denver University in Denver CO. He was a long and active member of the United Church of Paducah, where he served as treasurer, deacon and elder. He retired from Citizen’s Bank and Trust after 39 years.
