Funeral services for Ernest Ray “Ernie” Hughes, 55, of Cadiz, were held Saturday, February 26, 2011 at King’s Funeral Home in Cadiz. Bro. Pat Wright, Tim Humphries and Joe Radosti officiated. Burial followed in the East End Cemetery. King’s Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Hughes died of natural causes at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville.

He was born May 23, 1955 in Windsor, Mo. to Richard Bland Hughes, Jr. and Marjorie Elder Reynolds Hughes.

He was a security guard and the National Poster Child for the March of Dimes.

He was preceded in death by his parents Richard Bland Hughes, Jr. and Marjorie Elder Reynolds Hughes.

He is survived by his step-mother, Ella Hughes of Owensboro; seven brothers, Danny Allison (and wife Wanda) of Owensboro, Lynn Allison (and wife Vicky) of Illinois City, Ill., Rick Hughes of Cadiz, Don Hughes (and wife Trish) of Springdale, Ark., Tom Hughes (and wife Laura) of Cadiz, Chris Hughes of Oak Grove and Mark Hughes of Cadiz; three sisters, twin sister Thelma McGhee (and husband Steve) of Miami, Oaklahoma, Lena Haltvick (and husband Pat) of Mt. Iron, Minn., and Cynthia King of Edmond, Okla.; one aunt, Avonne Wilson, Gladstone, Mo.; one great aunt, Carol Hughes of Cadiz; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Danny Allison, Rick Hughes, Don Hughes, Tom Hughes, Chris Hughes, Mark Hughes, Steve McGhee, Michael Hughes, George Copeland, Matt Hughes, Shane McGhee.
