Funeral servicees for Major Vier, Jr., 73, of Herndon, were held Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville. The Rev. Brandt Lyon, The Rev. Steve Hussung, and Shelah Shelton officiated. Burial followed in Powell Cemetery in LaFayette.

Mr. Vier died of natural causes at 4:12 P.M. Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Centennial Medical Center

A native of Trigg County, he was born November 13, 1937 the son of the late Major Vier, Sr. and Willie Lee Ezell Vier. He was a truck driver who had retired from Thomas Industries and Phelps Dodge and was currently working for Jones Brothers. He was a member of Olivet Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Jane Vier; a son, Pat Vier of Herndon; a daughter, Jackie Bauer (Glen) of Grand Blanc, Mich.; a brother, Bobby Vier of Hopkinsville; a sister, Diana Shelton (Shelah) of Hopkinsville; and four grandchildren, Ashley Bauer, Meagan Bauer, Shana Bauer, and Patrick Vier.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Vier; and three sisters, Mary Joiner, Elizabeth Stallons, and Ruth Morris.

Pallbearers were Danny Joiner, Terry Joiner, Jeff Osteen, Tyler Osteen, Marc Quesenberry, Kenneth Shelton, Rick Smith, Ryan Smith, Keith Toms, and Bobby Vier.
