The Cadiz/Trigg County Farmer’s Market started Saturday morning to good weather and good crowds, said Leida Underhill, director of Cadiz Renaissance on Main.

As with previous years, the farmers’ market will be held every Wednesday and Saturday from roughly 7 a.m. to noon across from the Janice Mason Art Museum until October, said David Fourqurean, Trigg County extension agent for agriculture for the University of Kentucky’s Cooperative Extension Service.

Underhill said that there were three vendors at the first farmer’s market of the year selling flowers, shrubberies and assorted breads, and added the weather was great for it.

“It was a very good start to the farmer’s market,” said Underhill, who also said vendors will be accepting WIC vouchers again and that they’ll have the Senior Nutrition Program again.

“We are looking forward to another year with a great market having the best booths and best produce around this season,” Underhill said. “Also, we’re wanting to share recipes, customers and vendors.”

Early in the season, vendors will sell bedding plants, then later on various fruits and vegetables will be sold and by the end of October some vendors will sell pumpkins and other fall-related materials, said Fourqurean.

On April 16, the Forestry Department will be giving away trees at the market, said Underhill, who added that they plan on having a Farmer’s Market Fun Day on June 11, wherein the County Extension Office prepares samples of in-season foods.

Underhill said they are partnering with Janice Mason Art Museum to stamp bags so that customers will have their own market bags to use whenever they shop at the Farmers’s Market.
