Rotary Member Michael Conver said on Monday that with the combined efforts of the auction, raffle, county store, Century Club and donations, the Rotary Club collected “just north” of $175,000. He also said that was a running total and that it might go up as they keep counting.
“We’re not disappointed,” said Coleman. “It’s a lofty ambition to ask for $180,000, but the community responds completely whenever there is a need.”
The auction was off the air for about an hour on Friday night because of the two tornado warnings issued, which somewhat hampered their efforts, but a large amount of calls came in immediately after they were back on, Coleman said.
As of press time, the Rotary Club was still accepting donations for the Century Club, and when they stop accepting donations for that will be entirely up to Conver, said Coleman.
The auction was bookended by inclement weather. According to the Kentucky Mesonet, the county received almost 3.5 inches of rain, which Coleman said messed with their equipment, and on Friday the county received almost an inch of rain in addition to the two tornadoes.
