Trigg County’s Board of Education unanimously agreed to keep the Insurance Center of Murray & Mayfield as its insurance company when it met Thursday night at the school central office.

Trigg County School Superintendent Travis Hamby said there were some unresolved questions about renewing the contract with ICM&M for general liability, earthquake insurance and $5 million umbrella coverage as the price increased from $72,250 to $72,629.

“We had an option to renew for two additional one-year terms with the Insurance Center of Murray,” Hamby said. “We’ve had great success with them.”

Hamby said that the rate itself hasn’t changed and that the increase is due to additional school property, namely the full-sized hybrid bus, another full-sized standard bus and a handicapped-accessible bus.

The school board also unanimously gave its final approval to the District Facilities Plan, which will go to the Kentucky Board of Education for final approval. Hamby said that the facilities plan hasn’t changed since the last time the board approved it.

“It takes a little bit of time, but I think our product’s good,” said Matt Ladd, director of operations for Trigg County Schools. He also said that with the board’s approval, the district will have a facilities plan for the next four years.

In other business, the school board unanimously approved a job description for the Director of the Youth Service Center. Hamby said that Janice Boyd, the current director, will retire at the end of the current fiscal year, June 30, and that a formal job description needed to be created for that position.

Hamby explained that what they were trying to do is to put the Youth Service Director and the Family Resource Center Director on the same salary schedule and to give them the same job description.

The Youth Service Center serves the Middle and High Schools and the Family Resource Center serves the Primary and Intermediate Schools, but the directors of both centers basically have the same job Hamby said, adding that the Family Resource Center Director, Laura Shelton, isn’t going anywhere.

The board meeting proper followed a joint meeting between the board and the four Site Based Decision Making (SBDM) Councils at the Trigg County Middle School Library.
