Mrs. Rawls died of natural causes at 9:32 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2011 at Golden Living Center in Frankfort.
She was born March 25, 1922 in Cadiz to the late Jolly B. Jones, Sr. and Pearl Routen Jones Alexander.
Mrs. Rawls became the first Trigg County Public Librarian in the early 1950’s. During her tenure as librarian, she established the first Bookmobile service in Trigg County and expanded the library facilities and services. In the late 1950’s, Mrs. Edith Bingham Lawrence hired Mrs. Rawls in the position of Editor of the Cadiz Record. Mrs. Rawls purchased the newspaper from Mrs. Lawrence on November 27, 1961. Charline was later joined by her husband, William H. Rawls, Jr. in the operation of the newspaper until her retirement in 1974 when she sold the newspaper to Mr. Al Smith, owner of the Logan Leader and LBL, Inc. at that time. In addition, Mrs. Rawls served as choir director for the Cadiz United Methodist Church, where she was a member. She was also a member of the Trigg County Homemakers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Rawls, Jr.; one brother, Wallace Jones; and two sisters, Judy Melton and Edna Broadbent.
Survivors include two brothers, Jolly B. Jones of Cadiz and John Kay Jones of Akron, Ohio: two daughters, Margaret Jo Shockley of Frankfort and Mary Guy Cooke of Morgantown, N. C.: and one granddaughter, Ann Marie Wogan.
