Elected leaders have failed voters

To the Editor:

The American people have just witnessed one of the most unfortunate, disgusting and ugly displays of how our current government works today. In fact, over 70 percent of Americans disapproved. A plan was adopted to keep the government form default that could have been passed several months ago in a few days.

It happened because our elected leaders forgot about the people back home and played politics. The endless press conferences, the pontification, the mud slinging, the finger pointing and placing the blame was distasteful and rude. Those who want to blame one party or the other are right. One might ask, “Where is leadership? Where has it gotten us?”

Maybe we are getting what we deserve. After all, who elected these people time after time? We did! It is always the other person or the other party, not the one for whom we voted. He or she is okay, but it is all the rest that are leading us astray.

We will get our chance in future elections to change the way our government operates. Look and listen to the candidates and what they are about. If we don’t take the time to do this, we will not have done our part. We will not have exercised our duty and privilege as citizens of the greatest country on Earth. I, for one, am going to have a very difficult task voting for an incumbent. I do not want, nor does the country need, more of the same.
