A groundswitch that was tripped resulted in an outage for more than 11,000 customers in the area early Thursday morning.

Mark Lindsey, manager of key accounts for Pennyrile Electric, said a 161-kilovolt groundswitch, or relay switch, in the Cadiz substation tripped at approximately 6:42 a.m., resulting in a power loss for customers in Trigg and south Christian Counties served by the Cadiz, Cerulean, Rockcastle, Canton and Pee Dee substations.

The outage, which affected 11,168 customers, lasted about 45 minutes and was restored by 7:28 a.m., added Lindsey.
