This year, Ovey received an award from the Association of Government Attorneys in Capital Litigation (AGACL), an organization that was established 32 years ago. He was told he would receive an award called “The Best of the Best” during their conference.
“When I received this, I was kind of taken aback, I didn’t really understand how … my name had appeared to this group, and I come to find out my assistant had nominated me for this award,” Ovey said. “The plaque that I received more or less recognizes that for the year 2010 – 2011, their board had awarded me The Best of the Best presentation.”
Ovey said the fact that his assistant Carrie Ovey-Wiggins, his daughter, nominated him for the award, and the fact that this is a national award, made this award special. The award is for “outstanding advocacy in capital cases,” Ovey said.
