Frankie Phillips made no plea in Trigg County District Court Tuesday morning with regard to the assault charge that was filed against him, as he had no attorney with him.

“I would like to ask for more time to consult an attorney,” Phillips, a member of the Cadiz City Council, said, adding that he didn’t know who his attorney was going to be yet and that he would need about two weeks. District Judge Jill Clark scheduled him for a pre-trial conference in District Court at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11.

Phillips, who is charged with fourth-degree assault with no visible injury, reportedly punched Cadiz Public Works Department employee David Westerfield in the face outside of Light’s Plumbing at about 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3. The summons was served on Wednesday, Sept. 14.
