Trigg County’s Board of Education unanimously approved its $22.7 million working budget, which is more than $200,000 larger than the tentative budget passed earlier in the year, when it met Thursday night.

The budget will be sent off to the Kentucky Department of Education. Trigg County School Superintendent Travis Hamby said it’s more likely than not that the budget will change in the coming months.

Hamby said the amount of Support Education Excellence in Kentucky (SEEK) money from the state will be changed in December, although they had originally said it would be changed next March, and that the cuts will be part of the final quarter payment in March. He added that the SEEK funding is usually amended in September.

“The Superintendents Organization is encouraging us to … expect additional cuts, and that was pretty much confirmed in the last week and a half by (Kentucky Superintendent of Education Terry) Holliday,” Hamby said. “I think that’s a pretty raw deal … We’re approving a working budget tonight, before Sept. 30, with numbers that I suspect are completely inaccurate in regards to our SEEK.”
