Coach Curtis Higgins and Bill Chumbler founded the Trigg County Wildcat Century Club about 10 years ago. They were the respective head football and boys basketball coaches for Trigg County High at the time. The theory behind the club was simple. Football and basketball are traditionally revenue-producing sports at the high school. Both sports, however, do not get to keep their gate receipts. They are spread out over the 16 or so sports that the high school sponsors. Therefore, the former head coaches and some boosters got together and formed the Wildcat Century Club to give a boost to the aforementioned sports.
Over the years, the Century Club members have been treated to a dinner complete with a guest speaker as part of their membership privileges. Current University of Kentucky Head Football Coach Joker Phillips spoke to the group back when he was an assistant. Murray State University’s head football and basketball coaches have also spoken at the dinner. A couple of years ago, we started a new trend. We brought back former Trigg County athletes to speak. First was basketball standout Scotty Sivills. Then last year, former football great Al Baker spoke at the dinner.
