The coolness in the air can only mean one thing. The first day of basketball practice must be right around the corner. This year’s first practice will be held on Monday Oct. 17th.

As basketball tips off, Wildcat fans will notice a new face on the coaching staff this year. The 6’4” fellow helping yours truly is Coach Russell Malone. Coach Malone graduated from Portland High School in 1991. Portland is located in Tennessee just south of the Kentucky state line. Malone then attended Western Kentucky University and graduated from there in 1995. He spent 6 years as a assistant basketball coach at Franklin Simpson and 5 as an assistant at Hopkinsville. In 1995 he was a part of the staff that led the Tigers to the semi-finals of the state tournament.

Coach Malone the spent 4 years as the head coach at Warren East and 3 as head coach at Clarksville Northwest. In all he has 18 years coaching experience including 7 as a head coach.

Coach Malone’s and his wife Leigh Ellen are the proud parents of two sons. Mason is three years old and Taylor is a new born. For hobbies, Coach likes to hunt various game and watch movies. Malone is teaching in the Special Education department at Trigg County High School.

Be sure and give a big Trigg County welcome when you see him. I for one and looking forward to what he can add to our basketball program.
