The gun was taken into evidence, and the police are investigating who owns the gun and why it was on the ground, but so far there are no suspects, Wiggins said.
“Prior to the initial call of the gun laying in the parking lot, police had not received any information or witnesses observing someone with a gun in that area,” said Wiggins.
The police were called to the 200 block of Lafayette Street at about 7:35 a.m. after the 9mm handgun was found by a passerby, who reported it, said Wiggins, who also said that there were bullets in the magazine but none in the chamber.
