At last Tuesday’s Cadiz City Council meeting, city councilors voted 5 – 0 to have Cadiz Mayor Lyn Bailey enter into an agreement with the KOHS for the grant. City Councilor Todd King was absent.
Cadiz City Clerk Lisa Rogers said the city will use the grant to replace outdated radio equipment for the Cadiz Police and Fire Departments.
“There’s a thing called narrowbanding and B-25 compliant, which we are not there at this time,” said Cadiz Police Chief Hollis Alexander. “And we have to be by January of 2013, and this $20,000 will allow us to become compliant and meet the radio and the narrowbanding requirements by 2013.”
Alexander said the city has already received preliminary approval for the grant, and that once it gets the money, being compliant with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) mandate won’t take long. He added that it is a “100 percent grant.”
