If experience matters, Trigg County’s wrestling program will benefit from it this season.

Dennis Walls, the new athletic director of Trigg Schools, has joined the wrestling team as co-head coach along with Ralph Stevens, who spearheaded movements in recent years to rebuild Trigg’s previously dormant wrestling program.

Walls coached 10 years at Caldwell County before moving on to Union County, where he coached for 21 years, led the team to a pair of state championships, was named state coach of the year twice and a finalist for national coach of the year once.

Walls said the team is in its third week of practice and he’s happy with what he’s seen so far.

“They’re eager to learn,” Walls said. “They’ve been working hard, but we won’t know much until we get them on the mat.”

Walls credits Stevens for talking him into coaching.
