Funeral services for Jerry Wayne “Dum Dum” Proffitt, 61, of Cadiz were held Sunday, November 13, 2011 at Goodwin Funeral Home in Cadiz. The Rev. Mark Choate and Timothy Proffitt officiated. Burial followed in the New Jerusalem Cemetery in Trigg County. Goodwin Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Proffitt died of natural causes at 12 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at his residence.

He was born February 22, 1950 in Trigg County to the late Roy Hayden and Lena Pauline “Jack” Oliver Proffitt.

He was a United States Army Veteran having served in Vietnam. He was a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church and a retired heavy equipment operator.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Darrell Glenn Proffitt; and one baby in infancy.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Proffitt of Cadiz; four brothers, Linzie Proffitt, Paul Proffitt and Terry Proffitt all of Cadiz, and Harry Proffitt of St. Louis, Mo.; two sisters, Rose Mary Lampkin of Tampa Fla. and Lois Ann Hargrove of Cadiz; two sons, Timothy Proffitt of Cadiz and Joseph Ernest Cullum, Jr., of Cadiz; three daughters, Tabitha Johnson of Cadiz, Traci Choate of Cadiz and April Michelle Cottrell of Cadiz; eight grandchildren, Paxton Redd, Stephanie Andersen, Cody Choate, Jonathan Proffitt, Dalton Choate, Summer Cottrell, Ariana White and Malachi Cottrell; and three great-grandchildren, Elli and Lydia Redd and Elizabeth Andersen.

Pallbearers were James Martin, Jeff Chambers, Michael Puckett, Crowbar Hargrove, Henry Fuller and Michael Vanlue. Honorary pallbearers were Derek Martin, Kevin Martin, Cody Choate, Dalton Choate, Jonathan Proffitt, Stephanie Andersen, Joe Cullum, Michelle Cottrell, Rob Reason and Glenn Johnson.
