Trigg County’s Deonquez Nance goes for a layup during the Wildcats’ 99-28 win last Tuesday over Dawson Springs.

The Trigg County Wildcats opened the 2011-12 season with a pair of blowout wins – including one in 5th District play – and a first-ever win over a 1st Region power.

Trigg won its home-opener last Tuesday 99-28 over Dawson Springs before Friday’s district-opening 72-39 win at Crittenden County and Saturday’s 79-76 overtime victory over Paducah Tilghman.

Trigg had six players score in double figures against Dawson, led by Deonquez Nance with 22. Following him were Jay Bailey (14), Luke McKenzie (12), Jakelze Martin (11), Dee Murphy and David Wease (10 each).

Friday, the ‘Cats jumped out to a 20-4 first-quarter lead at Crittenden and never looked back. Nance led the way again with 32 points, and Wease added 10.

“Any time you can go on the road in the 5th District and win, it’s a good thing,” Trigg head coach Mike Wright said. “Crittenden’s got a very physical team, but we were able to force them into a lot of turnovers and play an up-tempo game.”
