Reader upset with lack of local crime coverage

To the Editor:

I find your lack of local news appalling, especially when the subjects concern crimes, arrests and court activity. You by association with a supposedly “newspaper,” are charged with discovering the news and reporting it to your readers. Every week, there are arrests and criminal activity in Trigg County that are known by citizens’ personal knowledge or neighbor-to- neighbor communication which are simply never mentioned in your paper. When arrests are made or warrants served, you never fully report the disposition of the cases. The citizens of Trigg County deserve better. We want to know where criminal activity is taking place, who was arrested, who was the victim and what was the disposition of the case. Remember your freshman year at journalistic school? Who, what, when and where.

Sheriff Burnam’s Facebook has more information than your paper. Can’t you at least read his Facebook and dig a little deeper to get the full story? The 911 log is another good source of information for news and should be reviewed every week with notable information published.

Your real problem seems to lie in the last paragraph of your Police Beat. Sitting on your can and simply copying reports sent to you is not reporting the news. Please get with the program and start reporting the full news and quit covering up what is already common knowledge.
