SMITHLAND – Trigg County fell into a second-place tie in the 5th District after Friday’s 58-45 loss at district-leading Livingston Central. It was the Lady Wildcats’ first loss of the season after a 3-0 start that included a 42-34 win last Tuesday at Dawson Springs.

Friday, the Lady ‘Cats fell behind by five before a 6-0 run put them ahead 13-12 at the end of the first quarter. Trigg pushed the gap to two at halftime but struggled in the third quarter, with Livingston scoring the final 10 points of the frame to lead 43-30. Trigg never got closer than 10 points from there.

“We had way too many turnovers, and a lot of them were unforced,” Trigg head coach Amy Breckel said. “We pouted a little bit tonight, and we can’t do that. That’s us beating ourselves.”

Breckel said Trigg’s defense was geared toward slowing Livingston’s leading scorer Anetta Sloma, who finished the game with 10 points.
