Ken Kohl, a volunteer with the Trigg/Lyon Volunteer Fire Department, will be the county’s fire department coordinator/trainer for the next three months with no salary.

Upon a motion by Magistrate Rick Nelson and a second by Magistrate Donnie Tyler, the Trigg County Fiscal Court unanimously approved him for that role when they met Monday evening at the Trigg County Courthouse.

“I’m pretty sure I can get this going … I’m more than glad to do this,” Kohl said.

Nelson, who heads the Fiscal Court’s Emergency Services Committee, looked over the job description Kohl provided for him, and he recommended that Kohl focus exclusively on recruitment.

Kohl has offered to do the job for free but wants the county to reimburse him for his mileage. Nelson recommended that he be reimbursed at the same rate granted to magistrates. Kohl will perform this task until March 17 next year, and Nelson said he should give a progress report at the Fiscal Court’s Monday, March 19, meeting.
