State Representatives John Tilley and Myron Dossett introduced legislation on Wednesday, Feb. 8, to raise the speed limit on U.S. 68/Ky. 80, from 55 to 60 miles per hour.

Tilley, a Democrat, represents the Eighth District, and Dossett, a Republican, represents the Ninth District. Dossett and fellow State Representative Jim DeCesare (R), who represents the Twenty-First District, introduced a similar bill at the end of January, but the newer bill is more comprehensive.

The newer bill raises the speed limit to 60 mph on U.S. 68/Ky. 80 from west of Natcher Parkway in Bowling Green to the Marshall County/Trigg County lin. The previous bill only went as far west as the Christian County line.

The bill was sent to the Kentucky House of Representatives’ Transportation Committee on Thursday, Feb. 9. Members of that committee and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet are discussing what would go into increasing the speed limit.

“I think this will be a positive action to increase potential visitors into and through our area,” said Bill Stevens, executive director of the Cadiz/Trigg County Tourist Commission.
