Mr. Boyd died Friday, February 10, 2012 at the NIAC Hospital in Post Falls, Idaho.
He was born in Cadiz, the youngest child of the late Samuel and Mary Louise Boyd.
In his youth he spent time working the family farm and attending school in Cadiz and graduated from Western Kentucky State College in Bowling Green with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology in 1950. He took a job as a schoolteacher in Illinois, though shortly thereafter was called to serve in the Korean War. Sam moved to the Tri-Cities in 1953 after two years of service with the Army. He met the love of his life Mary Jane Swope shortly after settling in Richland. Sam retired from Sandvik Special Metals after a long career in the nuclear industry. Sam was a friendly and giving man, loving husband to his wife and four boys; Allison, Paul, Kevin and Todd Boyd all of Kennewick. He enjoyed taking great vacations, spending time with his family, friends and variety of dogs throughout his lifetime.
He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Boyd, and mother, Mary Louise Boyd; two sisters, Kathleen McCoy and Ernestine Burton; five brothers, Herman, Adrian, Hollis, Allison and Chappell Boyd; and one son, Allison Boyd.
He is survived by three sons, Paul, Kevin and Todd; and four grandchildren, Ian, Stephanie, Carly and Jaden Boyd, all of Kennewick, Wash.
