The U.S. Coast Guard’s investigation of the Delta Mariner accident is “still ongoing,” Lieutenant Jennifer Jessee of the Coast Guard said Monday morning.

And an investigation of this nature could take six months to a year, Jessee added.

Suzanne Lagoni, spokesperson for Foss Maritime – the Seattle, Wash., based company that owns the M/V Delta Mariner – said that like everyone else, they’re awaiting the results of the Coast Guard investigation.

She added that any possible actions, disciplinary or otherwise, that the company would take with regard to the crew that were present at the Jan. 26 accident at Eggner Ferry Bridge would depend on that investigation.

“They’re always very, very careful in their investigations,” said Lagoni, who also said there has been little action taken on the lawsuit they filed. The company filed a lawsuit on Feb. 15 in U.S. District Court in Paducah under the Shipowners Limitation of Liability Act.

The company denies responsibility for the action and claims the navigations lights on the bridge were not operational at the time of the accident.
