A boil water advisory affecting roughly 400 customers in the Barkley Lake Water District could be lifted next week.

Barkley Lake Water District Manager Terry Goins said at Monday morning’s BLWD Board meeting that they have permission from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to install a new water main along the shoulder of Ky. 1891 across the Terrapin Lake levy on Lake Barkley.

“I was hoping by the end of this week to have the line in, and then I’d have the Bac-T samples sent to Henderson,” said Goins. He added that because the weather isn’t cooperating, it will probably be next week before the advisory can be lifted.

The new pipe was ordered and has been delivered, said Goins, who also said that customers in the Rolling Hills, Barkley Shores, Cumberland Shores, Donaldson Shores and Heather Hills subdivisions and on the west side of Ross School Road will be under the boil water advisory until the line is installed, the flushing is completed and the Bac-T samples are taken and are confirmed as satisfactory by the Kentucky Division of Water.

Last Monday, a 44-year-old water main under Terrapin Creek burst and completely came apart.
