Messmer, who signed during a ceremony Thursday at TCHS, will compete with the archery and softball teams.
Messmer said she was drawn to the small-town atmosphere in Williamsburg after attending Discovery Day at Cumberlands.
“The campus is beautiful, not very big, and it’s a town where everybody knows everybody,” Messmer said. “It fits me perfectly.”
Messmer said she was previously undecided on shooting archery in college until Cumberlands offered her a scholarship for it. After softball tryouts, she learned she’d have the opportunity to be part of both teams, which made her decision easy.
“I hope I get to play [softball] some right away, but being a varsity archer, it’s going to be hard to balance,” Messmer said. “Archery is basically a year-round sport, so we’ll just have to work it out.”
