SOFTBALL: Lady Wildcats win at Russellville, lose next four to start season

Trigg County High School won its first softball game of the 2012 season but then lost its next four.

The Lady Wildcats opened their year with an 8-2 victory last Tuesday at Russellville before losing 12-1 to Dawson Springs, 16-1 twice in a doubleheader at Madisonville-North Hopkins and 13-0 against University Heights Academy.

In the opener, Brittany Hallgren pitched a complete game to earn the win, striking out 14 batters and allowing two hits and three walks. She also went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, a run batted in and two runs scored. Brianna Messmer led the Lady ‘Cats at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Hallgren struck out seven and allowed five earned runs against Dawson Springs. Messmer recorded an RBI triple for Trigg’s only offense.

Sierra Bush knocked in Trigg’s only run with a double in the first loss at Madisonville, and Alison Russell, making her first pitching start of the season, had an RBI double in the second loss.
