John Oliphant of Cadiz-based Oliphant Construction said demolition work started Friday, March 23, and was complete by Thursday, March 29. Oliphant Construction was contracted by building owner David Chestnut for building work.
“We’re still in limbo, we’re still talking to the insurance company,” said Chestnut. He went on to say they’re looking at re-building but haven’t decided yet. However, he added that they will talk to an engineer about their options this week.
In the meantime, Oliphant Construction crews put white house wrap over the wall that stood between 46 and 48 Main St. to waterproof it, said Oliphant. Before the fire and demolition, it was an interior wall but is now exposed to the elements.
Oliphant said all the roads and parking spots were also open to vehicles on Thursday after the demolition work was complete. They put fabric on the fence surrounding the hole to make it more attractive.
