Hundreds of children hunted for a few minutes early Saturday afternoon for Easter eggs that contained prizes, including chocolate bunnies, Easter baskets, tricycles and bicycles.

The annual Cadiz Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt, named in honor of longtime organizer Bill Able, was one of the largest in recent memory, said Lions Club member Charlotte Brown.

“It’s a community affair. We do the leg work, but a lot of donations come in from the community to make it possible,” Brown said. “We hold it to give back to the community everything they give to us … It’s just a giving thing, and it’s fun to watch the children.”

There were estimates of up to 500 people in West Cadiz Park that afternoon, said Brown.

It starts at 1 p.m. Lions Club member Manuel Brown has said that at 1:06 p.m., there aren’t any eggs left.

The Easter Egg Hunt began back in the 1980s, but really picked up in popularity in the previous decade, when Bill Able and others got involved, said Brown.

The Easter Bunny made an appearance. Trigg County Judge Executive Stan Humphries wore a special Easter hat and provided the countdown to what he said was the only event that happens faster than the Kentucky Derby.
