Funeral services for Martha Gray Hooks, 91, of Cadiz, were held on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at Goodwin Funeral Home in Cadiz. The Rev. James Shuck and Dr. Hilda Bentley officiated. Burial followed in the East End Cemetery in Cadiz. Goodwin Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Hooks died of natural causes at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at Christian Health Center in Hopkinsville.

She was born on June 12, 1920, in Trigg County to the late William Henry “Bill” and Nancy Mann Gentry Gray.

Martha Hooks was a member of Cadiz United Methodist Church, where she had served as secretary to the board and past president of Methodist Women. She retired from Trigg County Insurance Agency and had worked at Trigg County Farmers Bank as a bookkeeper.

She served as president of Trigg County Hospital Auxiliary for many years. She was a member of Woodmen of the World and National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Martha enjoyed traveling and had visited all 50 states, which she was very proud of. She loved Cadiz and Trigg County and the people who live here.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Roberts Hooks; two brothers, Gentry Gray and Jess Gray; and four sisters, Mildred Mathis, Susie Bush, Evelyn Robinson and Dortha Dillard.

She is survived by two sons, Charles Hooks (and wife Peggy) of Hendersonville, Tenn. and Paul Hooks (and wife Jeri) of Princeton; four grandchildren, Charles Taylor Hooks, Catharine Elizabeth Hooks, Jessica Ellen Hooks and Perry Charles Hooks; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Taylor Hooks, Perry Hooks, Greg Oakley, Chris Wallace, Alfred Cossey and David Gray. Music was provided by Clay King, organist.
