Rotary Member Scott Sutherland talked spoke to fellow Rotarians and other local residents at the Monday morning kick-off breakfast, held at the Lake Barkley State Resort Park Convention Center.
That is what Jay Blanton, executive director of public relations for the University of Kentucky, said Monday morning during the annual W.J. Hopson Kick-Off Breakfast at Lake Barkley State Resort Park. The breakfast kicked off the annual week-long Cadiz Rotary Auction.
“It’s a promise that’s as relevant today as it was nearly 150 years ago, and we take it very seriously, because we believe … the young men and women we educate today will lead our state tomorrow,” said Blanton. “You already recognize that, and again I want to thank you … so many of those students are coming from Trigg County, the Pennyrile and western Kentucky, and they’re going to be our leaders in the future, so I applaud you for your efforts.”
Rotary Club member Scott Sutherland said he’s been helping out with these auctions for about 30 years, and that their goal is to raise $200,000 this year.
Rotary Club President Mike Conver said the purpose of the auction, and of the Rotary Club in general, is to help Trigg County High School seniors go to college, but is also about much more.
