Funeral services for Dovia Nell Patterson Fariss, 88, of Cumming Ga., formerly of Hopkinsville, were held on Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Hopkinsville Presbyterian Church in Hopkinsville.

The Revs. James Talley, Jason Heidel and Billy Gates officiated. Burial followed in the Riverside Cemetery in Hopkinsville. King’s Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Dovia Nell died of natural causes at 10:43 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Cumming Nursing Center in Cumming, Ga.

She was born on Aug. 9, 1923, in Dickson, Tenn., to the late James Thomas Patterson and Lula Morris Patterson.

She was a member of the Hopkinsville Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she belonged to the Cumberland Presbyterian Women and Class Friendly.

Dovia retired as a Kentucky New Era Motor Route Carrier in 1996 after 32 years of service, where she was awarded Carrier of the Month multiple times. She was a volunteer for the Cumberland Valley Girl Scouts and received the Service Unit award for her many years of service.

She was preceded in death by her husband Samuel Clyde Fariss; and two brothers, Howard Morris Patterson and Sterling Hugh Patterson.

She is survived by one daughter, Joyce Fariss Stevenson of Cumming, Ga.; and one grandson, James Thomas Stevenson of Atlanta, Ga.
