Helen Nimmo died at 11:22 a.m. on Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield.
She was born on Aug. 8, 1919, in Commerce, Mo., to the late Will Hawkins and the late Alta Smith Hawkins.
Helen was a graduate of South East Missouri State University and a graduate of Murray State University. She was a teacher at Benton Elementary School for 35 years and a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Benton where she taught Sunday School for over 24 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Nimmo; one brother, William (Buddy) Hawkins; and one sister, Billie Ann (Hawkins) Dunger.
She is survived by two sisters, Martha Frances Kozesky of Latrobe, Pa. and Alva Jane Hanheide of Green Valley, Ariz.; one son Robert Donald Nimmo (and wife Amanda) of Paducah; two grandchildren, Faria Marie Nimmo P’Pool (and husband Jodie) of Cadiz and Daniel Vasseur (and wife Jennifer) of Atlanta, Ga.; four great-grandchildren, Lillian Grace P’Pool of Cadiz, Morgan Vasseur, Alec Vasseur and Nolan Vasseur, all of Atlanta, Ga.
