With a motion by Board Member Sharon Simmons and a second by Board Member Jo Alyce Harper, the board voted 5 – 0 to approve plans to increase security on the outside doors in all of the school buildings.
“Because we are a small campus … we have a lot of transition between our buildings. And as a result, we end up leaving a lot of doors unlocked on our campus,” said Trigg County School Superintendent Travis Hamby. “We see a need to have those doors locked throughout the day and not have easy access to our buildings.”
The estimated cost is $156,751, but Matt Ladd, director of operations for Trigg County Schools, said that doesn’t include the seven alternate bids. Neither he nor Hamby could say what the project might cost with those alternate bids included.
Of the estimated cost, $124,500 is allocated toward general construction, the architect’s fee is $15,251, there is a contingency, or rainy day fund, of $15,000 and the rest is dedicated to other costs.
