Constructed canoeing and kayaking access points are still probably at least four or five years away, but now there’s an estimate for how much it would cost to build them.

Bill Stevens, executive director of the Cadiz/Trigg County Tourist Commission, showed ballpark estimates and conceptual drawings of a couple of sites to that group at its meeting Thursday afternoon.

“All [Kentucky] Fish and Wildlife projects … are on hold due to the budget. It looks like there’s going to be a waiting period for accepting projects of probably at least four or five years,” said Stevens.

At 2012 prices, a small boat ramp at Casey Creek – which would entail a one-lane ramp, six trailer spaces and eight single spaces – would cost $109,330. A small boat ramp at Pee Dee that would include the same main features as the Casey Creek ramp, would cost $61,730.

The Pee Dee site would be off of Ky. 164, while the Casey Creek site would be off of Ky. 1253. Tourist Commission member Gary Polete asked why a Ky. 272 site off of Honeysuckle Lane wasn’t included. He said that if the site was already “all right-of-way,” it would be their “best bet.”
