Its daily hours could be cut in half from eight hours a day to only four, according to information from the U.S. Postal Service’s web site. Currently, the post office is open Monday – Friday from 8 – 11:30 a.m. and from noon – 3:30 p.m., and on Saturday from 10 a.m. – noon.
It was announced earlier this month that instead of shutting down some 3,700 Post Offices to help ease its financial strains, it would instead reduce the hours of 12,983 of its financially struggling offices.
“The new strategy would be implemented over a two-year, multi-phased approach and would not be completed until September 2014,” according to the press release. “Once implementation is completed, the Postal Service estimates savings of a half billion dollars annually.”
