At press time, the Kentucky Mesonet had recorded a high of 106.6 degrees Fahrenheit, which was reached on Friday.
On Thursday morning, Trigg County Judge Executive Stan Humphries issued a ban on outdoor burning. There is no set expiration date on the ban; it states the ban is in effect “until sufficient moisture has alleviated the dangerous conditions.”
The ban did not originally affect fireworks, but Humphries amended the ban on Monday morning to include private fireworks, citing Kentucky Revised Statute (KRS) 227.750.
The fireworks show at Lake Barkley Beach, which was scheduled for July 3, was still allowed at press time.
“Only locations that will use professional pyrotechnicians and have firemen and fire trucks on site will be allowed,” the order states.
